Mechanics

Mechanics

The mechanics within Team Visma Lease a Bike play a crucial role in the team's success. They are responsible for maintaining, repairing and optimising the road bikes. A mechanics truck is our mechanics' workshop during races.

Before each race, the mechanics make sure the bikes are perfectly tuned, from the tension on the spokes and the condition of the tires to the adjustment of the gears and brakes. They work closely with the riders and the performance team to ensure the bike is completely to their liking. Moreover, they are on standby to make quick repairs during the race, for example in case of a flat tire or a chain problem. This requires not only speed and precision, but also composure under pressure.

Besides their technical skills, mechanics also play an important role in team dynamics. Their support provides riders with the confidence that their equipment is reliable, which helps them focus fully on their performance.

Fun fact:

  • Place in the car: a mechanic always sits in the right rear of the team car to help and supply riders with breakdowns.
  • Night work: In multi-day races, mechanics sometimes work well into the dark to have all the bikes ready for the next day.
  • Weighing to the gram: The weight of a bike is very important, and even an extra sticker can sometimes be too much.
