Team LottoNL-Jumbo invests in time trials

Team LottoNL-Jumbo has kept himself busy perfecting time trials, which has paid off with various victories. High Performance Manager Mathieu Heijboer and embedded scientist Gerard Rietjens have test the aerodynamics together with Red Bull, the University of Groningen, the TU Eindhoven and Spanish bio mechanic Jon Irriberri in the open air in Landgraaf.

Mathieu Heijboer

"It is not new that riders are tested in a wind tunnel, so you can put a rider more aerodynamically on his bike. But you have also to figure out whether the rider can remain in that position during a time trial, and you can only test it outside. "

Heijboer explained the importance of the outside test. "With Wilco Kelderman, we saw that he moves his head, but the movements are minimal. What we tried to approach perfection and all he has to do is to try to pedal harder. “
