Vingegaard second overall in Tour of Denmark

Vingegaard second overall in Tour of Denmark

Jonas Vingegaard has finished the Tour of Denmark with a second place in the overall classification. In the final stage to Frederiksberg, the overall podium was never in danger for the 22-year-old Dane. The stage ended in a bunch sprint where Norwegian Champion Amund Jansen finished fifth.

"I am very happy to be able to do a good GC in the Tour of Denmark," Vingegaard said. "To finish on the podium on homesoil is super. I think it is a pity that I made some mistakes during the race, but that is something to learn from and to work on towards the future."

Sports director Frans Maassen thought it was a good week in which the team has learned valuable lessons. “This week was a great learning experience for our youngsters in the team. With a bit of luck or a little more experience we could have won this race. All in all, we can look back on this week with a good feeling, despite missing a stage win. The team has been strong."

Jansen was also pleased with the team performance. “I no longer had the legs to sprint for a better position, but the team supported me really well today. We achieved some great results this week, but above all we fought as a team. It have been two great weeks here in Scandinavia."
