Tom Schellekens signs with Jumbo-Visma Development Team

Tom Schellekens will ride for the Jumbo-Visma Development Team for the next two years. The 20-year-old rider will continue to develop as a road and mountainbiker.

Schellekens is currently mainly active on mountainbikes but will also focus on road cycling with the Jumbo-Visma Development Team. "Tom has already shown excellent things on the mountainbike, and that is how he came on our radar”, head of development Robbert de Groot explains. "Based on the tests and conversations we have had with him, we expect him to develop well on the road. We will give him every opportunity to do so with our team. In addition, he will join the other off-road riders of Team Jumbo-Visma to stay active on the mountainbike during the summer. We believe in a broad approach and are happy to support Tom in both disciplines.”

The Dutchman is looking forward to the next two seasons. "I am very excited about this opportunity. It is a big step forward for me. Everything I need to develop in road cycling is here, and the team and I are convinced that I have a nice development margin. I don't want to say goodbye to mountainbiking completely: I still enjoy it too much, and the performances are good. The combination of road and mountainbike keeps me mentally and physically sharp.”
