Veenhoven sprints to strong third place in second edition of Copenhagen Sprint

Nienke Veenhoven secured a valuable podium finish for Team Visma | Lease a Bike at the Copenhagen Sprint. After a fast and exciting race towards the Danish capital, the Dutch rider sprinted to an impressive third place in the bunch sprint following strong teamwork from her teammates.

Copenhagen Sprint is known as a race that offers opportunities for the fastest women in the peloton. This year’s edition once again featured a largely flat course, with an approach to Copenhagen followed by several local laps through the city centre. The wide roads and high-speed sections made it difficult to maintain position in the finale, making strong team organisation crucial.

Team Visma | Lease a Bike rode attentively throughout the day and stayed out of trouble in a race characterised by a high pace. As the race entered its final phase and the sprint trains began to form, the team took the initiative. The riders of Team Visma | Lease a Bike repeatedly moved Veenhoven to the front and ensured she remained in an excellent position during the decisive kilometres. “The local circuit was quite hectic, but fortunately I didn’t notice too much of it. I was able to stay on Daniek’s wheel, and she kept riding in the perfect position, so that was great,” Veenhoven said afterwards.

"I’m happy with how it went, we certainly rode a strong race as a team."

The team also delivered a strong display of teamwork in the final kilometres. “In the closing stages, Margaux dropped me off perfectly onto the right wheel. The communication was really good today, and I’m very happy about that,” Veenhoven added. While several teams battled for the best positions approaching the finish, Team Visma | Lease a Bike remained calm and organised. The Dutch rider responded excellently to the accelerations of her rivals and managed to hold her own impressively in the hectic final metres.

Veenhoven ultimately sprinted to third place, earning a spot on the podium of the WorldTour race. The result highlighted not only her sprinting ability but also the strong work of her teammates, who supported her perfectly throughout the finale. Reflecting on her performance, Veenhoven said: “I feel that I rode a good sprint. In the end, I came just a little bit short, but I’m happy with how it went. This is definitely something we can build on, and as a team we certainly rode a strong race today.”
