After strong team effort, Vos sprints to second place in Grand Prix de Plouay

Marianne Vos sprinted to second place in the Grand Prix de Plouay. After a strong team performance in the demanding finale, the Dutch rider only had to concede to Mischa Bredewold, who proved to be the fastest in the sprint.

In the French one-day race, 23 riders, including Eva van Agt and Margaux Vigié, went on the attack. The large breakaway group built an advantage of over three minutes, but ultimately could not contest the victory.

On the tough local finishing circuits, the yellow-and-black formation showed its strength. Femke de Vries, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Vos were active several times, after which a select group headed toward the finish. In the final sprint, Vos eventually had to settle for second behind Bredewold.

“It was a good day,” De Vries reflected. “A big group went clear with Margaux in it, so we had to wait and see how the race would unfold. In the end, the peloton came back together, and I wanted to launch Pauline for an attack, but suddenly I had a good gap myself, which allowed Marianne and Pauline to save their energy.”

"I’m happy with how we raced together"

Ferrand-Prévot also looked back with satisfaction. “It was nice to be back in the race. As a team, we performed well today. Eva and Margaux did an excellent job in the breakaway, and later we were also able to show ourselves in the finale. I’m happy with how we raced together, and it feels good to have some race kilometers in the legs again.”
