Vos retains yellow jersey after second place in fourth stage of Tour de France Femmes

Vos retains yellow jersey after second place in fourth stage of Tour de France Femmes

For the second day in a row, the riders were presented with a flat stage. A bunch sprint seemed the most likely scenario, and that is what happened after the last breakaway riders were caught at four kilometres from the finish line. After her second place yesterday, Vos had another chance to get involved in the battle for the stage win, but she was just unable to beat Wiebes. The difference at the finish line was marginal.

"It's nice that I'm getting closer and closer."

Marianne Vos

"It's nice that I'm getting closer and closer, but Lorena was once again the fastest today", Vos said. "After such a difficult day, I'm glad I still have the yellow jersey. The pace was high right from the start and it was pretty chaotic. It's not easy to be at the front all the time, but thanks to the team, it went well. I'm grateful to them for that."

Vos says she enjoyed the first few days of the Tour de France Femmes. "It was fantastic to start the race with a stage win. The fact that it resulted in the yellow jersey is a nice bonus. In principle, the tactics and ambition within the team remain the same. We are still aiming for a good classification with Pauline. Will I be able to keep the yellow jersey tomorrow? That will be very difficult."
