Bennett retains fourth place in Tour of California

George Bennett has finished just next to the podium in the Tour of California. Despite several attacks, the leader of Team Jumbo-Visma remained fourth in the ranking.

For the third consecutive stage, it was Lennard Hofstede who was in the breakaway of the day. This time he was accompanied by teammate Neilson Powless. They were given a maximum advantage of two minutes. Bennett tried several times to force a break among the GC, but did not separate himself from the group of favourites. Hofstede jumped away in the final, but he was caught six kilometres before the end. In the mass sprint that followed, Team Jumbo-Visma didn’t play a significant role.

Sports director Grischa Niermann looked back at the stage with a good feeling. “Our goal today was to go all-in. Our guys did super well and really made the race. We did what we could and we were fighting until the finish line. Unfortunately we ended up just next to the podium, but the last few days we surely have been riding at a high level. The boys have shown that they are in a good shape.”
