Campenaerts attacks during third stage of Romandie

Victor Campenaerts attacked today during the Tour de Romandie. Before the final started, the breakaway with Campenaerts was caught. The sprint was won by Elia Viviani. Juan José Lobato finished in 10th place and Primoz Roglic remained fourth in the ranking.

"It was immediately clear that it was going to be a sprint stage," said Victor Campenaerts.

Immediately upon departure, a group of seven men attacked. On behalf of Team LottoNL-Jumbo, Victor Campenaerts escaped.

"We had the task to jump with large groups. This group was not so big, but with some strong men it could have a chance."

However, Campenaerts soon knew that his group would not stay ahead. Together with six fellow riders, he did not get more than three minutes ahead and 40 kilomtres from the line they were reeled in.

"It was immediately clear that there was control, the sprinter teams took the lead in the peloton and chased us. From that point on we are not giving full gas. We continued to run well, but have did so relatively easily. Tomorrow we get a hard day and on Sunday, I want to go for the time trial"

Lobato 10th

The group sprint was won by the Italian Elia Viviani.

"A 10th place is beautiful, but definitely not great. The run-up to the sprint was very nervous and I was pushed backwards. At two kilometres in front of the line, I did not have a good position, but fortunately, I moved towards the front."

Tomorrow is the queen stage on the programme. Primoz Roglic is still fourth overall. The Slovenian of Team LottoNL-Jumbo lost nine seconds to Fabio Felline, who remains the leader.
