Dylan Groenewegen sprints to fourth in Yorkshire

Dylan Groenewegen sprinted to fourth place in the Tour of Yorkshire today. One day after his victory, the Team LottoNL-Jumbo sprinter failed to keep Nacer Bouhanni from the victory in Harrogate. Caleb Ewan took over the lead after this second stage and Groenewegen dropped to third overall.

"I'm beaten on strength," said Dylan Groenewegen. "Yesterday we were the strongest and we won, today it was Bouhanni. It was difficult, the stage went up and down in the last kilometre. In the sprint, I was placed well. Hivert surprised us by an attack, but soon after that, the sprint started. I went on with Bouhanni and he took a lead. Bouhanni and Hivert stayed in front of me and Ewan came over. I think Bouhanni started a little bit fresher for the sprint than I did. The strongest won."

Team worked for the sprint

Sports Director Addy Engels saw the team work well and put its sprinter in position.

"That has been done today, Engels said. "We hoped for an early breakaway, but not too big. It cost us some energy before a small group went away, but eventually there were four men in the escape. We controlled the race especially with Stef Clement and Martijn Keizer. With 20 kilometres to go, we caught the break.

"In the final, there were some attacks, but Steven Kruijswijk did the necessary work by driving on the front of the peloton," said Engels. "It's going to be tough, especially the final circuit is very difficult. I do not think there will be big groups at the finish. "

Steven Kruijswijk will not start in the last stage.
