Kruijswijk 6th in the Tour de Suisse’s queen stage

Steven Kruijswijk climbed under the pouring rain to sixth place in the Tour de Suisse’s queen stage to La Punt today. The Dutchman, who moved to third overall, finished 12 seconds behind stage winner and new overall leader Domenico Pozzovivo.

“It was a though day today,” Sports Director Sierk Jan de Haan said. “We rode well as a team. We were with four riders until the foot of the last climb, so we could drop off Steven in a good position. On the climb, Steven rode along with the best riders and finished in a decent sixth place.”

"It was really exhausting for the guys. The whole day they rode full-gas and then they had to climb that final col. The descent of that last climb was very tricky. It was technical and fast and it rained hard."

“We have a good position to start tomorrow’s stage. Steven drops a place, but makes time up on the riders in front of him in the GC.”

The riders may have survived the queen stage of this year’s Tour de Suisse, but face another fierce mountain stage with the Tiefenbachferner climb.

“It is even more difficult than today’s Albullapass. The stage today suited Steven well and the stage tomorrow should also suite him.”
