Lars Boom and Jos van Emden in top ten time trial BinckBank Tour

Lars Boom finished fifth in the BinckBank Tour’s time trial. Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s 31-year-old rider started early and clocked 11:08 after nine kilometres. Jos van Emden was going well until he took the wrong turn. He ultimately came in tenth.

Everything went as planned for Jos van Emden, until the last kilometre. He took the wrong turn and lost precious time for the stage victory. “I was misguided by the man who indicated the deviation for the team cars”, he explained. “Of course I wasn’t quite fresh at that moment, so that’s why it went wrong. Otherwise I would have come close to the victory. The disappointment is huge because this stage was an important goal for me. We have to forget this fast, but it won’t be easy.”

The time trial in Voorburg reminded sports director Nico Verhoeven of the first time trial during this year’s Tour de France. “Such a time trial involves risks”, he said. “Of course it’s a pity that Van Emden took the wrong turn. Otherwise he would have come close to the victory. It’s a shame that he lost it in the final moments of the stage.”

Lars Boom was also a bit disappointed with his fifth place. “Nevertheless I think he can be happy with that classification”, stated Verhoeven. “He still has a good position in the general classification. In addition, Timo Roosen rode very well, despite the heavy rain. Still, we hope to have more luck tomorrow.”
