Vingegaard moves up to eighth place in the Deutschland Tour

Vingegaard moves up to eighth place in the Deutschland Tour

Jonas Vingegaard has moved up to eighth place overall in the third stage of the Deutschland Tour. The young Dane is riding a very strong second half of the season. Today he was part of the decisive breakaway, after which he finished thirteenth in the sprint.

On the undulating roads to Eisenach there was not much happening until the early breakaway was reeled in. Vingegaard was well positioned by his team and joined the leading group when Deceuninck-QuickStep was setting up the decisive move. Vingegaard reacted to a few attempts in the final kilometres, but wasn't able to get away.

Sports-director Merijn Zeeman was impressed by the Scandinavian. “Jonas has been doing very well for a while and he has demonstrated that again today. It was a difficult stage and a very difficult final with three climbs in the local lap. Jonas was among the best and also gathered an important bonification second. We are very happy with that. These seconds are very important in a stage race like this."

"Tomorrow will be a tough final day," Zeeman continues. “I think a lot of riders will play all or nothing for the GC. Now it is still a mix of climbers and classic riders. A lot can still happen in the hill zone tomorrow. We have to be focused and ride very attentively and then we'll see if we can move forward in the GC."
