Fan Peloton talk: 'The professionalism radiates from it'
In our new column ‘Fan Peloton talk’, we put members of the Fan Peloton in the spotlight. Who are they, why do they feel connected to Team Visma | Lease a Bike and who is their favourite rider? In the fourth episode, we have a chat with Iñigo Apezetxea.

Since when have you been a member of the Fan Peloton of Team Visma | Lease a Bike?
"I became a member in 2024. Since my children (Oinatz and Ioritz) and I started following cycling, we have always favoured Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The friendly appearance of the staff and riders like Sepp Kuss have made us even bigger fans. It feels very special to be part of this team."
Why do you feel involved with the team?
"Partly because of the messages we get in the WhatsApp group. I like getting information and photos about the riders, preparation and all kinds of technical things. That we get discounts on certain products is also interesting."
Have you been to any events?
"No, unfortunately not yet. Most events are too far away for us. However, this year we will be cheering on the team during the Itzulia Basque Country, Klasika Donostia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta. Someday I would like to visit High Performance Center in Den Bosch."
Why did you become a fan of the team?
"On the one hand because of my children and on the other hand because I like the way the team presents itself to the outside world. The professionalism radiates from it."
Who is your favourite rider and why?
"That's a difficult question. In my opinion, Wout and Jonas are the best riders, but we also like Sepp. He is always very kind to our children; he even gave his water bottle to my eldest son. Jonas also has a special place in our hearts. On the day of the heavy crash, he went for a photo with my children. When we saw his big crash, we were very shocked. That he won a stage in the Tour de France a few months later was very special."
What is your affinity with cycling?
"I have been an amateur cyclist all my life. I cycle about 18,000 kilometres a year (on the road). I also follow all road and cross races throughout the season. I especially enjoy watching the spring classics and the Tour de France."
What would make your membership even better?
"I know it's not easy, but I would really like to get an invitation to watch a race one day. In addition, I hope to get the opportunity to buy some gear, such as a bike and other equipment."
