Dutch Masters inspire new Tour de France jersey Team Jumbo-Visma

Team Jumbo-Visma and AGU will release a Limited Edition jersey for the 2022 Tour de France and Tour de Femmes. Viewers worldwide will witness the masterpieces of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh during these four weeks of racing.

A palette of colours, patterns, and combinations was extracted from iconic paintings with the help of artificial intelligence to underline the Dutch roots of one of the world’s most successful cycling teams.

Because of UCI rules and regulations, Team Jumbo-Visma needed to adjust their jersey for the Tour de France. In the current design, it looks too much like the yellow jersey. For that same reason, the team changed outfits last year, adding the names of fans who bought the jersey. For the 2022 edition, AGU and Team Jumbo-Visma will be showing their Dutch heritage. The drive to perfection and performance display an essential parallel between the Dutch Masters, the team, and AGU. Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh are internationally praised for their detailed and unique art. Their paintings are considered to be some of the best ever made.

To demonstrate the innovative nature of AGU and Team Jumbo-Visma, the palette to design the jersey was composed through artificial intelligence. The Masterpiece will be worn by the Men’s and Women’s Team during their Tour this summer, and it will be available for all fans and active cyclists.

Algorithms & Dutch Masters

With the use of artificial intelligence, designers were able to incorporate the inspiration from individual works and styles of the Dutch Masters. The algorithm analysed fifty paintings of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh to highlight small renowned pieces. The most outspoken pieces were composed into a design palette, creating The Masterpiece for riders like Primož Roglič, Wout van Aert, and Marianne Vos.

For everyone

The Masterpiece will be made available to cycling fans and active cyclists around the world. From April 14 to April 25, they will have the opportunity to purchase the jersey. You can also sign your own Masterpiece by adding your name and number to the jersey, or those of your favourite Team Jumbo-Visma rider. And to top it off, a matching bib short, socks, gloves, and race cap will be available in the shop.

Richard Plugge, General Manager Team Jumbo-Visma: “Last year, we released our first special edition Tour de France jersey with AGU. We enabled our fans to be a part of our journey by adding their name to our official jersey. That gave us the inspiration to take it a step further this year. It is exciting to see that we were able to develop a jersey inspired by three Dutch Masters through innovation. It is the perfect example of our heritage and our future goals.”

Björn Jeurissen, CEO AGU:“We are really proud to produce our top-quality, innovative and aerodynamic cycling apparel for this Tour de France with such a special design. The Dutch roots of Team Jumbo-Visma and AGU and the joint international ambition fit seamlessly together with the allure of the Dutch Masters.”
