From Barcelona to the Javalambre Observatory: the first Vuelta stages in pictures

Today is rest day in La Vuelta. With two stage wins and the red leader's jersey it is a good time to look back on a successful first week. We've selected the best photos from the first nine stages for you!

Stage 1-5

The 78th edition of La Vuelta started with a 15-kilometer rainy team time trial through the streets of Barcelona. The subsequent stages presented no problems for the riders of the yellow-and-black formation.

Stage 6-9

In the sixth stage, Team Jumbo-Visma showed themselves more than once. Sepp Kuss showed his class and crossed the finish line as the winner. A few minutes behind the American, Roglic and Vingegaard went on the attack together and won more than half a minute on the other classification riders.

On day eight, the finish was atop the extremely steep Xorret del Xati. Roglic gave the yellow-black brigade its second stage victory and Kuss took the lead in the general classification. The last stage before the rest day was marked by echelons. The riders proved to be on top of their game and, as a result, no major problems resulted. On the final climb, Roglic managed to grab a few more seconds on his rivals.
