After successful year, Vos remains ambitious for new cycling season

After successful year, Vos remains ambitious for new cycling season

Marianne Vos, a longstanding icon in cycling, once again showed her class in 2024. With impressive victories in classics such as Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Dwars door Vlaanderen, and the Amstel Gold Race, as well as winning the green jersey in both La Vuelta Femenina and the Tour de France Femmes, she had an exceptionally successful year. As icing on the cake, she also crowned herself Gravel World Champion. Vos also looks ahead to next season and is full of ambition.

“I'm delighted with how 2024 turned out,” the Dutch rider begins her story. “Beforehand, you don't know how the season will unfold, but I was able to maintain a high level throughout the year, which resulted in some great victories that we achieved as a team.”

With victories in major classics, the general classification in the Tour of Catalunya, and the Olympic silver medal, it is hard for Vos to pinpoint her highlight of 2024. “It's hard to choose one moment. In the spring I won three classics, then in the summer I claimed the green jersey in the Tour de France Femmes and won a silver at the Olympics. Overall, it was a great season, and I look forward to 2025.”

However, the 37-year-old Dutch rider is not only pleased with her performance but also looks with pride at the progress her team has made. “Every year, the team takes big steps forward and, that is of course nice to see. I was part of the team from the very beginning, and watching how it has grown over time is incredibly rewarding. Hopefully, we can develop as a team again in 2025.”

Despite her experience and skills in the peloton, Vos herself believes there is always room for improvement. “In terms of training, but also tactics and strategies, I can still improve. Additionally, racing has evolved, and the level of competition has increased. Over the years, all these aspects have developed. This year, I hope to continue developing myself further.”

"I hope to race for victory with the team as often as possible"

“I’m really looking forward to pinning on a race number again,” Vos says as she looks ahead to the upcoming cycling season. “I hope to race for victory with the team as often as possible and get the best out of myself. I’m especially excited about the spring classics, particularly Milan-San Remo, Paris-Roubaix, and the Amstel Gold Race. Of course, the Tour de France Femmes is also a major goal for me.”
