Ambitious Rüegg heading for RideLondon with Jumbo-Visma Women

Team Jumbo-Visma Women will take part in the Ford RideLondon Classique coming weekend. The British race has three stages in and around the English capital. The Dutch team wants to be at the front of the pack this weekend. The same goes for Noemi Rüegg.

The 22-year-old Swiss rider will compete for the second time in the race. She also participated last year. "I have good memories of last year's race. I remember that we got better as a team during the race. On the first day, our sprint train was a mess. On the last day, it went much smoother", Rüegg said.

The Swiss rider has been racing a lot lately. "After the Vuelta, I took a break. That was necessary. After a week, I started training again, and now I am preparing for the second part of the season. It starts for me this weekend with the RideLondon."

"We want to show what we can do"

The first two stages will be hilly. A bunch sprint is almost inevitable on day three. Ruëgg is clear about her goals for the race. "We want to show what we can do. On days one and two, the course lends itself to a breakaway. We want to be part of it. Speaking for myself, that's a goal. As a team, we have several cards to play. For example, some strong riders can slip into a breakaway, but we can also go for the sprint with Anna Henderson. If we win a stage or get some good results, the race is a success for us."

"The season is going well so far", she says. "I think I have made some progress compared to last year, both tactically and physically. I feel proud of how I've grown. In the classics, I was often in a good position in the final, and in the Vuelta, I was able to do my work for the team."

Rüegg is looking forward to the rest of the season already. "I want to reach my peak at the European and World Championships. This year will be my last in the U23 category. I will also be racing the Giro for the first time. I'm eagerly anticipating it. Let's start the second half of the season with some excellent results at the RideLondon Classique."

Teuntje Beekhuis, Nienke Veenhoven and Carlijn Achtereekte will join Ruëgg and Henderson on behalf of Team Jumbo-Visma Women.
