Brennan sets sights on spring classics and Grand Tour debut

Brennan sets sights on spring classics and Grand Tour debut

Twenty-year-old Matthew Brennan had his breakthrough at the top level last season, claiming victories in several WorldTour races. This year, the young Brit aims to continue his upward trajectory, with the major classics as his first goal and a Grand Tour debut on the horizon.

“It has been a very successful year,” Brennan reflects, having recently extended his contract through 2029. “Since joining the team, I’ve felt that the guidance is excellent and that I have the best support from everyone. I believe this team offers me the best opportunities to keep growing and become an even better rider.”

“I hope to reach the same level as last season, and ideally push even higher,” the ambitious rider continues. “From there, I hope to make my mark more and more in the bigger races, where I can hopefully play a meaningful role.”

After his first participation in Paris-Roubaix last year, the young sprinter aims to line up again in several major spring classics this season. “This year I’m focusing on the big classics, such as Milan-Sanremo, Paris-Roubaix, and the Tour of Flanders. I hope to play a significant role in these races and gain experience in such big events.”

In addition to the spring classics, a Grand Tour debut is likely later this year. “If everything goes well, I will make my Grand Tour debut at La Vuelta. I’m really looking forward to it and curious to see how I’ll handle it.”

The prospect of racing many big races this year clearly excites Brennan. “It’s amazing to start in several major classics, but I’m especially looking forward to La Vuelta. Riding three weeks of stages will be tough, and I don’t yet know how my body will respond, but with good preparation and a strong team, I hope to achieve a lot.”

“It would be great to win at least one stage,” Brennan says about his ambitions. “In every stage race, you start with that goal, and for me, that’s the main objective right now. But above all, I mainly want to learn and gain experience in La Vuelta.”

Before the monumental classics and La Vuelta, Brennan will kick off his season in Australia. “I’ll start at the Tour Down Under, where I aim for stage wins. Then I’ll begin my classics campaign in the opening weekend with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. It’s a hectic but beautiful race. Hopefully, I can make a strong start to the spring season there.”
