Mixed team at the start in Ruta del Sol

Team Jumbo-Visma will appear at the start of the Ruta del Sol with a mixed team. Representing the World Tour Team, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Christoph Pfingsten, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Antwan Tolhoek and Timo Roosen will make their appearance. Development Team riders Finn Fisher-Black and Owen Geleijn complete the selection.

The Spanish stage race normally takes place in February, but has been moved to May due to the coronavirus

The Andalusia region is known for its hilly terrain, but the wind often plays a major role as well. The first stage starts with a tough climb in the first kilometres. The finish is after a short climb of 1.2 kilometres. This is followed by two stages with quite a few altitude metres. The general classification is expected to be determined here. The last stages are likely to end in a sprint.

Sports director Sierk Jan de Haan: “We will start without a protected leader, so every rider has the opportunity to show himself. With Owen and Finn, two riders from the Jumbo-Visma Development Team are part of the squad. It is a tough race for these men, but also a great learning experience.”

For Van Hooydonck and Eenkhoorn, riders from the classics team, it is the first race after a period of rest. Last Thursday, Roosen rode his first race in a while with Circuit de Wallonie.
