Affini finishes fourth in fast time trial Baloise Belgium Tour

Edoardo Affini rode to a fourth place in the opening time trial of the Baloise Belgium Tour. The Italian of Team Visma | Lease a Bike did a strong time trial, but ultimately came up twelve seconds short of victory.

On the almost flat course of about twelve kilometers in and around Beringen the time trial specialists could show their skills. On his return to the peloton, Mick van Dijke set a good time and was able to stay in the top ten for a long time. The real favorites were a little faster and among them was Affini. In the second part of the time trial, the Italian gave it his all, eventually finishing in fourth place. Norwegian Søren Wærenskjold was victorious.

"I think it went pretty well," Affini said after his race against the clock. "After the Giro d'Italia it was a bit of a wait and see how the legs would feel. A time trial like this is a short but difficult effort. That's tough to restart with."

"I certainly can't be dissatisfied."

The TT-specialist eventually rode to a fourth place. "I got close to the first riders and was able to find my rhythm on this course. Especially on the longer sections I was able to push the speed up quite a bit. I certainly can't be dissatisfied."

"The differences between the general classification riders are not that big after this time trial," said Per Strand Hagenes, who finished seventeenth as second rider of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. "My time trial went reasonably well, but I had hoped for something more. Training has gone well recently, so I hope I can show the good form and legs this week."
