Assertive Van Agt shines in third stage of Vuelta a Burgos

Eva van Agt showed her best side in the third stage of the Vuelta a Burgos. The Dutchwoman rode with four other riders in front of the peloton for a long time, but the five riders stood no chance against the chasing pack. Lorena Wiebes won the third stage, which was marred by a big crash in the final kilometers.

In the third stage of the Spanish stage race, it took a long time before a real breakaway emerged. After 50 kilometers, Eva van Agt and four other riders chose the breakaway. The riders created a lead of more than two minutes but were eventually caught by the chasing peloton three kilometers before the finish line. In a chaotic finale, the riders of the yellow-and-black formation were involved in a big crash just before the finish.

"I hope the damage is not too bad, but for now, we just have to wait and see"

Jan Boven

“We went down hard with five riders,” sport director Jan Boven told us afterwards. “All five riders have serious abrasions and Eva has been taken to the hospital for a check-up. I hope the damage is not too bad, but for now, we just have to wait and see.”

Despite the huge crash that caused a lot of damage to the team, Boven is satisfied with today's performance. “It went well today, we wanted to make the race, and we did. Eva was well in the front and made a very strong impression. Also in the sprint we still had plans, unfortunately, the massive crash threw a spanner in the works and caused a very bitter aftertaste.”
