Crashes prevent good result Team Visma | Lease a Bike in Classique Dunkerque

Team Visma | Lease a Bike was unable to play a major role in the first edition of Classique Dunkerque. Axel Zingle was involved in a crash five kilometers before the end and was therefore unable to compete for a top classification. The same applied to Julien Vermote.

In the French one-day race, which is the prelude to 4 Jours de Dunkerque, four riders went on an early adventure. The quartet grabbed a maximum lead of seven minutes, but that proved insufficient to fight for victory.

After the escapees were caught, Per Strand Hagenes saw his chance to attack on the slopes of the Notre Dame de Lorette. The Norwegian was joined by two riders, but due to a bad collaboration, the three were soon caught.

In the finale, Team Visma | Lease a Bike gave everything they could to bring Zingle to the line as best they could. Due to a strange obstacle on the road, Julien Vermote and Zingle crashed, preventing a good result.

"Hopefully, the damage won't be too bad, but I can't say too much about it at the moment."

Frans Maassen

"Hopefully the damage won't be too bad, but I can't say too much about it at the moment", sports director Frans Maassen said. "We started today with the idea of creating chaos and making it a hard race. Per launched a good attack at the trickiest point in the race. Unfortunately there was little enthusiasm to ride along."

"After it became clear that no one wanted to try anything, we prepared for the sprint with Axel. The moment he crashed, we knew the race was over." Tomorrow, the same team will start in the five-day race in Dunkerque. "We will have to wait and see how Julien and Axel are tomorrow. In any case, Per is fine and the others also had a good race."
