Fourth place for Staune-Mittet in fourth stage Coppi e Bartali

Johannes Staune-Mittet has finished fourth in the fourth stage of the International Cycling Week Coppi e Bartali. Gijs Leemreize also rode well in another hilly stage and spent considerable time in the breakaway.

The riders faced three climbs today near the start and finish in Fiorano Modenese. It was the most challenging stage of the five-day race in northern Italy.

A group of 17 riders, including Leemreize, broke away from the peloton after the first climb of the day. A series of climbs later, the breakaway also dispersed. Only Guerin, the eventual stage winner, stayed in front of the advancing peloton.

"These young riders performed very well"

Robert Wagner

Sports director Robert Wagner was pleased with his riders' performance. "The men rode fantastically. They gave it their all. The plan was for Gijs to be in the breakaway, and he managed. For a long time, we were in the lead group with the four Jumbo-Visma riders", he said. "On the last climb, everything fell apart, after which Johannes attacked with the best and ended up fourth. These young riders performed very well. Tomorrow we will try to finish the stage race in a strong way. It would be great to have Johannes in the top ten of the overall classification again."
