Jumbo-Visma Women opens Giro Donne with sixth place in team time trial

Jumbo-Visma Women opens Giro Donne with sixth place in team time trial

Team Jumbo-Visma Women has finished sixth in the team time trial of the Giro d’Italia Donne. On the first day of the Italian stage race, it took the black-and-yellow formation one and a half minutes longer to complete the stage than day winner Trek-Segafredo in the heat.

For the women’s team of Team Jumbo-Visma it was the first team time trial in a competition. The team, consisting of Marianne Vos, Riejanne Markus, Anouska Koster, Julie Van de Velde, Teuntje Beekhuis and Nancy van der Burg covered the hilly course of 26.7 kilometres in exactly 34 minutes and 56 seconds.

Performance Coach Marieke van Wanroij was not dissatisfied with the performance of her riders. “We knew in advance that it would be a difficult team time trial. The various obstacles along the way and the heat did not make it easy. This race against the clock benefits from a good technical performance. That is what we focused on as a team. For everyone it was the first team time trial in the Jumbo-Visma colours. In my opinion, the execution and the cooperation went well. I can only be satisfied with that.”

"This is a good result that we can build on."

Marieke van Wanroij

“Beforehand we saw that sixth place would be a realistic spot for us as a team”, Van Wanroij continued. “In the end we also finished sixth. That is in line with the expectations. This is a good result that we can build on. Towards the future, but also in this race.”
