The stage was once again highly aggressive from the start, with multiple attacks early in the day. Eventually, a small breakaway of four riders managed to get clear, but Team Visma | Lease a Bike kept the situation firmly under control throughout the stage. The escapees were never allowed more than two minutes, allowing the peloton to keep the race tightly controlled heading into the finale.

In the closing phase, the team once again took responsibility in the chase, and Brennan was delivered perfectly by his teammates. The Brit then made the difference in a very tight sprint finish. The victory was ultimately decided in the final centimetres, with Brennan narrowly coming out on top to secure his second win of the week.

There was also positive news regarding Tijmen Graat after his crash in the opening stage. The Dutch rider was examined by the team doctor and physiotherapist last night and was found to have no lasting issues. Graat got through today’s stage without any problems and was able to resume his role within the team.

Sport director Gaëtan Pons was also very pleased after the stage with the performance of the team’s younger riders. In particular, their control of the early breakaway was highlighted by the team management.

Thanks to his second victory, Brennan remains in the overall race lead. He also continues to lead both the points classification and the young rider classification.

Tomorrow features the toughest stage of this year’s Flèche du Sud, covering around 156 kilometers. With plenty of elevation gain, it is not expected to favour the sprinters, and the climbers and puncheurs are likely to seize their opportunity in a more selective stage.
