No podium for Team Jumbo-Visma Women at Giro dell Emilia Internazionale Donne

No podium for Team Jumbo-Visma Women at Giro dell Emilia Internazionale Donne

Due to bad luck in the final stages of the Giro dell Emilia Internazionale Donne, the riders of Team Jumbo-Visma Women could not compete for the podium. In the small remaining group, Danish rider Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig proved the best.

The first Italian autumn classic took the riders from Carpi to Bologna. On the flat run-up to the Basilica San Luca, little happened. Despite numerous attacks, no lead group emerged. In San Luca, the pace picked up considerably. This led to a big shake-up in the peloton. Eva van Agt was at the front but had to let the group go due to setbacks. Thirteen riders were left at the foot of the final climb to the Basilica. Uttrup Ludwig showed that she was the strongest and crossed the line solo.

“The plan today was to get a good result with Eva”, Race coach Carmen Small explained. “We tried to save energy until the final stage, which the team did well. With Amber (Kraak) crashing, we lost an important rider for the final kilometres. Eva was in a good position, but due to bad luck, she couldn't keep up in the end. Unfortunately, this is part of racing.”

"I'm looking forward to Tre Valli Veresina"

"I'm looking forward to Tre Valli Veresina”, said the American race director, who is leaving Team Jumbo-Visma after this season. "Every race has been unique, and I have enjoyed being with the team. Of course, Tuesday is tough, but I will give it my all with this great group of riders and staff.”
