Oudeman fights to strong top ten classification after tough final stage Vuelta a Burgos

Maud Oudeman finished the Vuelta a Burgos in tenth place in the general classification. The Dutch rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women finished in a strong group in the challenging final stage securing an impressive result in the WorldTour stage race. Rosita Reijnhout ended up twelfth in the rankings.

In the final stage, which included two categorized climbs, the teams of the general classification riders took control. The control was, in rainy conditions, present almost the entire race, as a breakaway group never really got formed. Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women attacked a few times, but did not succeed.

On the steep climb of the Alto de Rozieventas the race blew completely apart. At the start of the difficult sections Vollering attacked and arrived solo in Canicosa de la Sierra. Oudeman reflects on a tough stage in the hilly terrain of Burgos: “This morning we had to see how we felt after yesterday's hard crash. That was literally and figuratively a hard blow for the team. However, the motivation never diminished.”

"It was a hectic four days, but I think we can be proud of our fighting spirit."

“Margaux Vigie and Linda Riedmann tried to join a breakaway early on. And they were in a nice group,” Oudeman said. “Then Rosita and I were kept well-positioned at the front by our teammates. On the last climb I did what I could and with a big group we were able to ride to the finish with a large group.”

The 20-year-old rider is very happy with the final result. “I feel proud because it's the first time I rode top ten in the general classification in the WorldTour. Compliments to the hard work of the team. That feels very special to me. It was a hectic four days, but I think we can be proud of our fighting spirit.”
