Strong Markus wins Dutch time trial championship

Strong Markus wins Dutch time trial championship

Riejanne Markus has won the Dutch time trial championship for the first time in her career. The 28-year-old rider of Team Jumbo-Visma Women clocked a time of 53:42 in Elspeet, leaving the competition far behind. For Markus, it was her second victory of the season.

The reigning Dutch road champion was one of the last riders to start the race, and she rode a strong opening phase. She had a lead of over half a minute at the first checkpoint. Markus continued where she left off on the second part of the time trial, finishing 55 seconds ahead of Demi Vollering, who took second place. This brings Team Jumbo-Visma Women's season total to five victories.

"When I return from the training camp, I can ride an optimal time trial."

Riejanne Markus

"Last winter, I told the team that winning the Dutch time trial championship was my biggest dream because it is simply the most enjoyable discipline for me", a happy Markus said. "They gave me their full support. Everything had to come together, but we did everything we could in preparation. When I return from the training camp, I can ride an optimal time trial. That's why I skipped some road races. Fortunately, it was a success despite the hot and challenging conditions. I am very proud."
