Team Jumbo-Visma concludes successful Giro in Verona: 'Three beautiful weeks’

Team Jumbo-Visma can look back on a satisfactory Giro d'Italia. The team won two stages and the mountain classification with Koen Bouwman and got several notable places of honour.

On the grand tour’s final day, a time trial in Verona was on the programme. Tobias Foss became eighth. After the time trial of more than seventeen kilometres, Edoardo Affini, Koen Bouwman and Gijs Leemreize were also among the best 25 riders. Australian Jai Hindley won the Giro d'Italia.

"It was three fantastic weeks"

Koen Bouwman

In his blue mountain jersey, Bouwman passed the line in the Verona Arena with a big grin on his face. He became the first Dutchman to win the Tour of Italy’s mountain classification. "I will never forget these three weeks. I enjoyed the last day of this Giro. A lot of people were shouting my name from the side. That gave me goosebumps. I think the realisation will come when I'm on the podium with the winners of the other jerseys. I dare not compare myself with names like Joop Zoetemelk, Steven Rooks and Gert-Jan Theunisse, but the fact is that from now on, I will be mentioned in the same breath with them. The two stage victories were fantastic, and winning the mountain classification is also fantastic. It is almost a pity that this Giro is over, although I am thrilled that I will see my family and friends again. It was three fantastic weeks."

"We can look back on some fantastic successes"

Addy Engels

"We look back on a very successful Giro”, explained sports director Addy Engels. "We started this tour with ambitions for the final classification, but we soon had to set new goals. We changed our tactics and went for stage wins and later the mountain classification. Koen won the blue jersey and two fantastic stages. The performances of Gijs, Edoardo and all the other guys are also worth mentioning. We can look back on some fantastic successes."
