Team Visma | Lease a Bike concludes Itzulia Women with good feelings

Team Visma | Lease a Bike was unable to compete for victory in the final stage of the Itzulia Women. Maud Oudeman crossed the line in Donostia in thirteenth place and secured twelfth place in the final classification. Demi Vollering won the stage and the overall classification.

In the final stage of the Basque stage race the riders were faced with a number of tough climbs. The Jaizkibel, known from the Clasica San Sebastian, did not create big differences at the beginning of the day, but the Mendizorrotz did. On the steep slopes Demi Vollering accelerated and bit by bit rode away from her competitors.

Oudeman held her own in the chasing group and tried to hang on as long as possible. In the end, she reached the line in 13th place. “We knew the last climb would be decisive and that Demi would attack full speed. A 5-kilometer climb doesn't lie, so in the end everyone is sitting where they should be,” sports director Jan Boven said.

"The way we rode this weekend deserves a big compliment."

Jan Boven

"The ladies did everything possible to drop Maud and Eva off at the foot of the final climb. Eva unfortunately had a slightly lesser day and could not maintain her top ten ranking. Maud moved up a few spots, but finished just outside the top ten. The goal was to finish in the top ten. Unfortunately that didn't work out, but they worked really hard for it."

With a third and fifth place for Margaux Vigié and a second place for Oudeman in the youth classification, Boven looks back on a successful weekend in the Basque Country. "We had very good results, but especially the way we rode deserves a big compliment. Yesterday Rosita and Mijntje rode a strong final and Margaux again sprinted to a nice place of honor. We go home with a good feeling."
