Team Visma | Lease a Bike confident ahead of mountain stages after another sprint stage at Tour de Pologne
Team Visma | Lease a Bike did not play a leading role in the third stage of the Tour de Pologne. For the third consecutive day, the stage was decided in a bunch sprint. Jonathan Milan sprinted to his third consecutive victory.
The third stage took the peloton from Gorzów Wielkopolski to Zielona Góra. There was a prolonged battle for a place in the day’s breakaway. Classification leader Milan was briefly part of the front group as well, but the Italian was brought back by the peloton. Eventually, six riders formed the breakaway. The six were only caught in the closing stages.
A short, categorized climb in the final kilometers could not prevent another bunch sprint. For the third day in a row, the sprinters prepared to battle for the victory. Once again, Milan proved unbeatable, remaining undefeated. In the coming days, the peloton will head into the mountains, with several demanding stages still to come.
"we can certainly compete for stage victories and a strong result in the final classification"
“The breakaway consisted of six strong riders, so it remained exciting until the very end,” sports director Robert Wagner looks back. “Matteo Sobrero was one of those six riders and posed a threat to the general classification. That’s why we decided to contribute to the chase. Loe van Belle put in an impressive performance there. We got another bunch sprint, but our main objective was to bring the breakaway back.”
The German sports director is already looking ahead to the challenging final weekend. “From tomorrow onwards, the general classification riders will have the opportunity to show themselves. We are in a good position in the standings. With Bart Lemmen, Wilco Kelderman and Louis Barré, we can certainly compete for stage victories and a strong result in the final classification.”
