Team Visma | Lease a Bike has no major role in second stage of Tour de Romandie

Team Visma | Lease a Bike did not play a major role in the second stage of the Tour de Romandie. On the slopes of the steep Les Marécottes, the yellow-and-black brigade couldn't get up to fight for the stage win. Thibau Nys, who was part of the early breakaway, sprinted to victory.

The 171 kilometer ride to Salvan presented the peloton with two serious climbs. Even before the first climb, seven riders took a six-minute lead and at the foot of the final climb there were three minutes left. Although the reduced peloton rapidly approached, early breakaway rider Nys sprinted to the stage win. Koen Bouwman and Johannes Staune-Mittet finished some forty seconds behind the winner.

"It was a nice ride, but we had hoped for something more in the finale. We wanted to follow as long as possible and see how far we would get. Unfortunately, the conclusion is that we were not good enough to go with the very best," sports director Grischa Niermann said. "I am not disappointed, because we are here mainly to prepare for the Giro."

"Especially Jan Tratnik should be good in this time trial."

Another race against the clock is scheduled for tomorrow. After Tuesday's prologue, an individual time trial of more than 15 kilometers will follow on Friday. "The same goes for tomorrow as for today: we're going to do everything we can to get a good result. Especially Jan Tratnik should be good in this time trial, but for that he needs good legs. Today he had hoped for a bit more than he showed."
