Team Visma | Lease a Bike shows attacking spirit in Ronde van Limburg

Team Visma | Lease a Bike rode an attacking race in the Ronde van Limburg. The Dutch formation chose to attack frequently and did everything possible to avoid a bunch sprint. Despite a brave last-minute attack by Julien Vermote, Dylan Groenewegen sprinted to victory.

For the third day in a row, Team Visma | Lease a Bike was at the start of a one-day race. In the Ronde van Limburg, a 195 kilometer race through the Flemish hilly landscape, Darren van Bekkum provided the breakaway of the day. The 22-year-old rider from the Development Team grabbed a three-minute lead with two other breakaway riders, but that turned out not to be enough.

In the remaining part of the race Morten Nørtoft, Tosh Van der Sande and Vermote also showed themselves in front. The 34-year-old Belgian created a small gap after the final climb, but was unable to surprise the peloton. "We showed ourselves well in every part of the race," sports director Sierk Jan de Haan said.

"Loe felt good, but had a flat at the most unfortunate moment."

"In the first phase it was Darren who was part of the breakaway. As far as we were concerned, the leading group could have been even bigger, but unfortunately their lead was soon a bit too big. The moment Darren was caught, Morten made a good attack. In the final kilometers Julien tried it with a late effort, but unfortunately he didn't get enough margin."

According to De Haan, Loe van Belle would be outplayed as the sprinter, but the youngster suffered bad luck in the final kilometers. "Loe felt good, but had a flat at the most unfortunate moment. Right after that, Morten also had a flat tire, so they both couldn't finish in the top. Nevertheless, I am proud of the attacking way of racing and we showed ourselves when we had to."
