Team Visma | Lease a Bike shows intentions in Heistse Pijl

The seventeenth edition of the Heistse Pijl did not produce a top classification for Team Visma | Lease a Bike. After a race of almost two hundred kilometers, the victory went to Alexander Kristoff, who succeeded Olav Kooij.

With six local laps of twenty kilometers and the Heistse Berg as the decisive point, the race had an identical course as last year. Five riders pulled away early on and grabbed a maximum lead of four minutes. Tosh Van der Sande tried to bridge across to the front group, but didn't succeed.

After the last remaining breakaway rider was caught, it was time to pay attention towards the foot of the final passage of the Heistse Berg. Colby Simmons and Jesse Kramer were at the front on behalf of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, but were unable to compete for the win. Kristoff proved to be the fastest sprinter.

"Our goal was to make it a hard race."

Sierk Jan de Haan

"Our goal was to make it a hard race," sports director Sierk Jan de Haan said. "We tried to get in the breakaway, but the peloton didn't let us go. When we came to the local laps, Tosh chose a good moment to attack and put pressure on the sprinters' teams. Since we didn't have a pure sprinter with us, we needed a harder course. I think the guys managed that well."

In the closing kilometers, Team Visma | Lease a Bike attempted to push Loe van Belle to the front as the finisher, but he got boxed in. "At the moment supreme we lost each other and Loe couldn't get there. Jesse and Colby were still able to find a gap on the left side of the road and both finished in the top twenty. All in all, we had a great race and were able to gain race kilometers for the races to come," De Haan concluded.
