Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women active in Tour Down Under Women’s One Day Race
Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women was visible throughout the Tour Down Under Women’s One Day Race. The black and yellow squad made several attempts to launch a breakaway but ultimately saw their efforts go unrewarded.
In the Australian one-day race, which held its second edition today, the action started early. On the local laps in Tanunda, multiple riders tried to escape, and the riders of Team Visma | Lease a Bike were alert at the front.
Despite these attempts, a full peloton entered the final kilometers. The Dutch team was unable to compete for the win in the bunch sprint, which was marred by crashes involving Maud Oudeman. In the end, Maggie Coles-Lyster proved to be the strongest in the sprint.
"We stayed alert at the front and were able to respond to the attacks that came"
“Maud has been taken to the hospital for checks,” said team director Jos van Emden. “She was experiencing a lot of pain around her shoulder, but we don’t know yet how serious it is. Further examination will have to determine that. Hopefully, it’s not too bad.”
Despite the disappointing result, the team director was satisfied with the way the race unfolded. “We were active in the race right up until the last five kilometers. We stayed alert at the front and were able to respond to the attacks that came. Unfortunately, in the finale, our riders lost each other, which meant contesting the sprint for a good placing was no longer possible.”
