Uijtdebroeks climbs to podium spot in second stage of Tour de l’Ain

Uijtdebroeks climbs to podium spot in second stage of Tour de l’Ain

Cian Uijtdebroeks took second place in the second stage of the Tour de l’Ain. The young Belgian launched an attack on the final climb and was joined by Nicolas Prodhomme, who later proved the strongest in a two-man sprint. Ben Tulett finished fourth, Tijmen Graat came in ninth.

In the second stage of the French stage race, Team Visma | Lease a Bike immediately took control in the tough finale. Led by Tim Rex and Wilco Kelderman, a small group remained at the front, after which Uijtdebroeks launched his attack. The young Belgian was soon accompanied by Prodhomme.

Together, Uijtdebroeks and his French breakaway companion quickly built a solid gap over the chasing group, which included Tulett and Graat. Despite several attempts to shake off Prodhomme, Uijtdebroeks couldn’t drop him, and the Frenchman came out on top in the sprint.

"As a team, we’ll give it our all to bring home the overall win"

Cian Uijtdebroeks

“We rode a really strong race as a team today,” Uijtdebroeks reflected. “At the start, we were able to control the stage well, and Tim and Wilco did an amazing job on the climbs. The plan was to attack early to see if I could crack Prodhomme, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out. Still, I’m taking a positive feeling into tomorrow.”

Tomorrow brings the queen stage of the Tour de l’Ain, featuring the brutal Col du Grand Colombier as the key challenge. “I’m really looking forward to it. As a team, we’ll give it our all to bring home the overall win. My legs feel good, and the longer, tougher climbs tomorrow should suit me better. Hopefully, it will be a great day.”
