Veenhoven finishes second in final stage of Simac Ladies Tour

Nienke Veenhoven placed second in the closing stage of the Simac Ladies Tour. The Dutch rider of Team Visma | Lease a Bike launched herself in the finishing straight in Lichtenvoorde and was the only rider able to stay somewhat close to stage winner Lorena Wiebes. Margaux Vigié secured fifth place in the general classification.

The final day of the Dutch stage race still featured a few tricky obstacles, including the Muur van Zeddam and several gravel sections. Those gravel stretches created some nervous moments and small splits in the peloton.

Nevertheless, the closing stage ended in the expected bunch sprint. Team Visma | Lease a Bike took the initiative and entered the final kilometer at the front. The lead-out delivered Veenhoven perfectly into position. In her sprint, she ultimately had to settle for second behind Wiebes.

“It’s a good result,” Veenhoven said with a smile. “As a team we did well today. We were exactly where we wanted to be in the final kilometer. Unfortunately, Lorena is very hard to beat at the moment, as she showed once again today. Maybe it wasn’t the very best week for us as a team, but today we really turned things around. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the final races of the season.”
