Veenhoven sprints to second place in La Choralis Fourmies Féminine

Nienke Veenhoven capped off a strong weekend with a second-place finish in La Choralis Fourmies Féminine. A day after her victory in A Travers les Hauts de France, the 22-year-old had to settle for second behind Lorena Wiebes.

La Choralis Fourmies Féminine was another one-day race on the calendar in northern France. The peloton covered 126 kilometers, with the start and finish in Fourmies.

After a controlled opening phase, Zoé Bihan and Laura Poncet went on the attack. The peloton kept the duo's advantage under control. With just over 40 kilometers remaining, their breakaway came to an end, helped in part by the work of Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women at the front of the peloton.

Several riders, including Imogen Wolff and Katharina Sadnik, tried to launch attacks afterward, but the peloton was determined to set up a mass sprint. On the streets of Fourmies, Veenhoven was expertly guided into position by her teammates. The 22-year-old Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women sprinter ultimately had to settle for second behind Wiebes.

“Second place behind Lorena was the best we could achieve today,” Veenhoven reflected. “Our plan was to attack a few times on the local laps. Imogen and Katharina tried several times. Even though they gave a lot during the race, they also worked for me in the finale. I’m grateful to them for that. We can look back on a successful weekend here.”
