Tosh Van der Sande’s four years at Team Visma | Lease a Bike

As the off-season is now in full swing, it’s time to look back on some of the beautiful years our leaving riders spent with Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Today we’re saying goodbye to Tosh Van der Sande, who retires from pro cycling after 14 seasons at the highest level.

2022

After ten years at Lotto Soudal, Tosh joined our team in January 2022 as a reinforcement for our classics and lead-out squad. With many years of experience in the Belgian spring races, Tosh helped Wout van Aert to victory at Omloop het Nieuwsblad and E3 Saxo Classic, and later finished ninth overall in the ZLM Tour after returning from a broken elbow. He was a consistent domestique throughout the entire season and also helped Olav Kooij secure some of his early wins.

2023

The following year, Tosh continued supporting his leaders in almost every imaginable spring classic. Once again, he played a key role in Van Aert’s victory at the E3 Saxo Classic, and was also part of the team that set up Christophe Laporte for his big win at Dwars door Vlaanderen. In the second half of the season, he primarily focused on working for Kooij, who was developing into a top sprinter - with Tosh playing an important role in the lead-outs.

2024

In 2024, Tosh followed a similar race programme to the previous year, splitting his time between his role in the sprint train for Kooij and lining up at the biggest classics, especially those in his home country. He also spent a full day in the breakaway at the Amstel Gold Race, showing his climbing talents, and memorably made it into a small front group at the Elfstedenrace that battled for the win after a full day with heavy crosswinds.

2025

This season turned out to be the last of Tosh’s long career, and he made final appearances in many of the races he knew so well, including Milan–San Remo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège. In a heartfelt farewell message on Instagram, Tosh announced that the time had come to put the bike in the garage and reflected on a memorable career. Alongside riding 23 monuments, he also started ten Grand Tours and claimed two victories of his own before dedicating himself fully to his teammates.
