Kraak aims for good classification in Tour of Scandinavia

Kraak aims for good classification in Tour of Scandinavia

Team Jumbo-Visma Women will compete in the Tour of Scandinavia from August 23 to August 27. Amber Kraak aims for a strong classification on behalf of the yellow-black formation. The 29-year-old Dutch rider is in good form, as evidenced by her recent victory in La Périgord. As a result, she heads into the five-day race in northern Europe with confidence.

"It was nice to be home for a while, but I am looking forward to racing in Scandinavia”, says Kraak, who enjoyed her win in France. "I wanted to win La Périgord, but that is always easier said than done. The field was less competitive than in the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, so I felt winning was possible. Luckily it worked out. After the second race on Sunday, where we once again rode strongly as a team, we went out for a meal together to celebrate our success. I look back on a good and enjoyable weekend.”

"The time trial on day four will also be decisive for the general classification."

Kraak also has fond memories of the Tour of Scandinavia, where she won the mountain jersey last year and guided Marianne Vos to four stage wins. The Dutch rider knows that the course is usually selective. "Most stages end with a tricky criterium lap. The pace is typically high there. A late attack could work for me, although a breakaway is easy for the peloton to control. The roads are wide and roll well, so it often turns into a bunch sprint.”

"For a stage win, the main opportunity is the second stage”, Kraak says. "It might work out to attack on or just after the climb in the final. Usually, a select group stays at the front. Hopefully, I can be competitive in that phase of the stage. The time trial on day four will also be decisive for the general classification. So far, my races against the clock have gone better than expected, so I have slightly revised my expectations. My goal is to finish high up in the general classification.”

Alongside Kraak, Teuntje Beekhuis, Nienke Veenhoven, Carlijn Achtereekte, Maud Oudeman and Kim Cadzow will also be at the start in Norway.
