Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development aims for growth and development in 2024

In 2024, three U23 riders - Per Strand Hagenes, Johannes Staune-Mittet and Loe van Belle - will join the WorldTour squad. Tijmen Graat, Menno Huising and newcomer Jørgen Nordhagen have signed professional contracts and will join the team in 2025. Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development enters the new year with great confidence after a successful season.

With 10 UCI victories, Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development had an excellent year. Key riders such as Van Belle, Staune-Mittet and Hagenes were rewarded with places in the 2024 WorldTour squad. "As a U23 rider, you dream of a career on the WorldTour", said Hagenes, who won three professional races last season. "When it finally becomes a reality, it feels like a wonderful reward for all the years of hard work in the development team. Next season will be all about my development. I am looking forward to learning from the world-class riders in the team."

For Menno Huising and Tijmen Graat, 2024 will be their last season as U23 riders. They will then join the WorldTour squad. "The team gives you the best of both worlds", Huising said. "On the one hand, you can compete in the final stages of the U23 races, but on the other hand, you can already feel the level of the professional races. This combination ensures that you are gradually prepared for the real thing as a rider."

"The team's professional approach is exceptional", Huising added. "It's all in the details, but always with a smile. It took me some time to adapt, but you can see that all the work pays off in the end. I have become a better rider. The way I work, the food and the equipment have allowed me to make great progress."

Seven talented riders will join Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development in 2024. 18-year-old Jørgen Nordhagen is one of the newcomers. "Here I have the time and space to develop", the Norwegian said. "I am looking forward to the transition to the WorldTour team in 2025, and the upcoming season with the development team will play an essential role in that. The personal development path and the team's vision made for an easy decision."

The team will continue to focus on developing its young talent in 2024. "The number of victories or how many times we finish in the top ten is less important", Head of Development Robbert De Groot said. "It's about giving the riders a proper development plan in the best possible environment. The process of getting better will hopefully lead to a step up."

"It's great to see that riders like Per, Johannes and Loe can make the step to the pro peloton in 2024. The flow from our development team to the WorldTour team has increased in recent years. That will always be our goal, but we give the riders as much time as they need to prepare for life as a professional. Sometimes it takes three or four years for someone to be ready to compete at the highest level, but it is worth it", De Groot concluded.
