Bunel claims French national U23 title

Bunel claims French national U23 title

Marion Bunel is the new French champion in the under-23 category. The 20-year-old rider from Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women crossed the finish line solo in La Tour-du-Pin. “This is a dream come true.”

“Becoming French champion has always been a dream of mine, and today that dream has come true”, Bunel said afterwards. ”A national title is one of the highest achievements in cycling, so I am extremely proud to be able to wear this tricolour jersey.”

Bunel controlled the race from the start. The talented Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women rider immediately broke away together with Célia Gery. The two worked well together to build up their lead. With just under twenty kilometres to go, Bunel accelerated. She then convincingly rode solo to the national title.

“A national championship is always a special race tactically, so I knew I had to be alert from the start”, says Bunel. “Today, it was to my advantage to attack. The course was also conducive to that. Together with Célia, I managed to build up a solid lead. I had a hard time after she accelerated, but I knew I had to keep fighting. I kept encouraging myself, and that resulted in something very beautiful.”
