Henderson third in final stage Ceratizit Challenge

Anna Henderson has finished in third place in the final stage of the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta. In the ascending stretch of road to the finish in Santiago de Compostela, the British rider of Team Jumbo-Visma won the sprint of the reduced peloton, behind stage winner Lotte Kopecky and Elisa Longo Borghini who attacked in the last kilometere.

The stage was partly animated by Team Jumbo-Visma. Just like yesterday, Amber Kraak joined a large breakaway. After the peloton had caught up with the Kraak group, Team Jumbo-Visma controlled the pace in the peloton together with Liv racing. Henderson was brought into a good position for the sprint, but was unable to answer the acceleration of Kopecky and Longo Borghini. Riejanne Markus finished tenth and was the best placed rider of Team Jumbo-Visma in the general classification with the fifteenth place.

Henderson was delighted with her first WorldTour podium. “It was a tough and fast stage. The pace was very high from the start. There were a lot of attacks, but it took quite a while until a group with Amber got a big gap. That was an ideal situation for us. When Amber dropped out at the front, we started to chase. Amber and Aafke did a good job, after which Riejanne brought me in an ideal position to the final climb. It is my own mistake that I did not immediately react to Lotte and Elisa, because I felt very good. I gave it my all for the last three hundred metres, but the advantage of the two was already too big. I am very happy with my first WorldTour podium finish and with the learning process this week. I hope I can continue my good form into the European and World Championships.”
