Kramer rounds off strong Tour de Bretagne with win in final stage and third place in GC
Jesse Kramer has won the seventh stage of Tour de Bretagne. After a strong effort on the decisive final hill, Kramer managed to keep the competition behind him. The 20-year-old Dutchman from Team Visma | Lease a Bike Development thus secured third place in the general classification of the prestigious French stage race.
On the seventh day of Tour de Bretagne, the 160-kilometre stage between Le Hinglé and Dinan was on the programme. During the local laps in Dinan, the cobbled hill just before the finish line was crucial. Kramer, who had been consistently in the top ten of the general classification since the first stage, was still in sight of a possible overall victory before the start of the final stage. He placed his attack on the cobbles of Dinan, after which he took his first win of the season. In addition to a stage win, Kramer also secured a third place in GC.
"I noticed early on that I was strong"
“The difference with classification leader Jakob Söderqvist was less than a minute, so we definitely wanted to try to go for the overall victory today,” Kramer said afterwards. “I noticed early on that I was strong. The hill in Dinan also suited me very well. In the last local lap I decided to attack early on the cobbles. I managed to create a small gap over the peloton, which fortunately was enough to take the win. It turned out not to be enough to move up in GC, but in hindsight I am happy with my third place.”
“The week started anything but well for our team,” he continued. “On day two, both Dario Belletta and Morten Nørtoft had to leave the race after a crash. So I'm glad I was able to take the win today. That way we could still end this week on a positive note. I am very grateful to my three remaining teammates Pietro Mattio, Loe van Belle and Colby Simmons for their work over the past few days. For me, this was already my best win so far.”
