Team Jumbo-Visma unfortunate in final stage Tour of Norway

In the final stage of the Tour of Norway, Team Jumbo-Visma has not been able to play a significant role in the battle for victory. Sprint team leader Mike Teunissen and Nathan van Hooydonck crashed and weren’t able anymore to fully participate in the sprint. The peloton only neutralised Timo Roosen's attack in the final kilometres.

The Tour of Norway’s final stage took place in rainy conditions in and around Stavanger. The day's breakaway was quickly formed but never managed to create a large gap. In an otherwise quiet stage, a crash startled the peloton. Van Hooydonck and Teunissen could not avoid a collision and the latter suffered a lot of abrasions.

To avoid the expected sprint, Roosen attacked with five kilometres to go. He joined the leading group’s two remaining riders. They were only caught in the final kilometre. In the final sprint, Roosen and Teunissen finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

According to sports director Arthur van Dongen, the team had to switch gears in the final. "It's a pity that our sprint leader Mike was involved in the crash with Nathan. He could return to the peloton, but he couldn’t sprint anymore. We then changed gears in the final with Timo. He rode well towards two early breakaway riders. Unfortunately they were caught. The fact that Timo and Mike finished sixth and seventh means that they certainly held their own."
