Team Visma | Lease a Bike safely through first stage Eneco Tour, Vigié finishes tenth
Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women came through the first stage of the Eneco Tour Women without any problems. Lieke Nooijen lost the leader’s jersey, but with just one second separating her from the new leader and a time trial coming up tomorrow, she remains well positioned. Sandrine Tas won the opening stage, while Margaux Vigié finished tenth.
In the opening stage of the Eneco Tour, which covered just 80 kilometres, Team Visma | Lease a Bike was quick to position itself towards the front of the peloton. With Nooijen wearing the leader’s jersey, the team rode attentively and made sure not to get caught out.
As the race approached its finale, the pace in the peloton increased and the riders began preparing for the sprint finish. Vigié was well positioned by her teammates, but the Frenchwoman was unable to contest the stage victory in a chaotic finale. She eventually crossed the line in tenth place.
"The coming days will be tough, but the way I feel right now gives me a lot of confidence"
“The most important thing was to get through the stage safely and save our energy for the stages to come, and we did that well,” Nooijen said afterwards. “As a team, we rode attentively, and it was good that we stayed out of trouble. The coming days will be tough, but the way I feel right now gives me a lot of confidence.”
