Team Visma | Lease a Bike Talents shine in second stage of Tour of Oman

Cian Uijtdebroeks finished seventeenth in the second stage of the Tour of Oman. The 21-year-old Belgian from Team Visma | Lease a Bike crossed the line in the reduced peloton, which miscalculated the early breakaway by Louis Vervaeke. Vervaeke took over the leader’s jersey from Olav Kooij.

With over 200 kilometers, the riders faced the longest stage of the Tour of Oman. Kooij, who won the opening stage yesterday, started in the red leader’s jersey. Right after the starting signal, five riders formed the early breakaway. The peloton allowed the group to build a significant lead.

As the final climbs approached, the pace in the peloton increased. Among others, general classification leader Kooij dropped back. In the peloton, Pietro Mattio and Niklas Behrens once again made a strong impression. Up front, breakaway rider Vervaeke was the only one who managed to stay ahead of the peloton. Uijtdebroeks finished shortly behind his fellow countryman in seventeenth place, making a solid move in the general classification.

“I’m satisfied with my form,” Uijtdebroeks said after the race. “The guys rode an excellent race. Steven (Kruijswijk), Pietro, and Niklas showed their value once again, just like yesterday. I’m looking forward to the rest of this tour. I hope I can compete for a strong position in the overall classification.”
