Tim van Dijke wins prologue at Sibiu Cycling Tour

Tim van Dijke wins prologue at Sibiu Cycling Tour

Tim van Dijke has won his second professional victory in the prologue of the Sibiu Cycling Tour. The 22-year-old Dutchman completed his short race against the clock in two minutes and 42 seconds and was the fastest in Romania. Pascal Eenkhoorn and David Dekker finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Van Dijke was seven-tenths faster than Boguslawski. The victory of the young rider from the Dutch province of Zeeland brings Team Jumbo-Visma's victory tally to 26 this season. Van Dijke has had a pro contract since this year and is part of the Young Team Jumbo-Visma. A supporting role for the talents is alternated with opportunities to show themselves. His development is central in that varied programme.

"I needed this victory”, says Van Dijke. "I've had a bad time because of a severe injury, so it's nice to win again. In a prologue like this, everything needs to be perfect. It is not a sprint; you must divide your forces well. In the coming days, we hope to win another stage with David and give Gijs Leemreize and Chris Harper a good position in the GC. We will go flat out for that.”
