Van Dam second in Giro dell’Emilia Internazionale Donne
Sarah Van Dam finished second in the Giro dell’Emilia Internazionale Donne. The Canadian from Team Visma | Lease a Bike put in a strong ride, but was unable to close the gap to Alessia Vigilia after the Italian rider went clear in the finale.
The race featured a flat opening section of around 100 kilometers before the riders took on two laps of the local circuit in Bologna. The pace picked up significantly in the finale, with Vigilia managing to break clear of the rest.
Van Dam gave chase and tried to close the gap to the Uno-X Mobility rider, but despite her efforts, she was unable to bring her back. Vigilia held on to take the win, while Van Dam crossed the finish line in second.
"We can learn from this and look ahead to Tuesday."
“It was about 100 kilometers of flat racing before we did two laps of the local circuit. My feeling after the race is a bit bittersweet. We could have done some things a little differently, but that’s always easy to say after the race. We can learn from this and look ahead to Tuesday.”
Another Italian race is on the schedule Tuesday, with Team Visma | Lease a Bike lining up for the Tre Valli Varesine. Van Dam will have another opportunity to fight for a strong result.
